The premise of this series is charming, and the first books were delightful, but with v.5 the series has been transformed from multi-volume story to situation comedy. The author has written herself into a corner: It was established in a previous volume that the team (especially mile, who has magical super-user privileges) can defeat elder dragons, so there is no way to actually challenge them. So any story will be "Girls come into town, girls are underestimated, girls show off" or "An interesting thing happens to the girls while they are wandering aimlessly".
By now people should know what to expect. The story was entertaining as always, but plot progress was a bit dissapointing. The meeting with old friends felt a bit rushed and nothing was resolved. The ending was a cliffhanger of sorts. All in all, fun to read, but felt a bit like a slice of life intermezzo.
Nothing truly relevant happens in this book, at all. The entire thing could be skipped and you wouldn't really miss much.The only time something really interesting happened was at the very last few pages, and that ended up as a cliff hanger. It's really a bit disappointing, this series is sort of like that though so I can't rate it too poorly. Hopefully the next volumes will be a little more interesting.
My expectations were totally destroyed by this fourth book. It was messy and hard to follow the story. Hope it will get better in the next.
*Heavy sigh* I really enjoyed previous books in this series but the story has all but stopped moving forward. Mile and crew continue to meander about the countryside doing 'only things that are interesting'. Previously every book has made some form of progress towards whatever the author is trying to tell storywise, however this book just feels like a filler arc that should have come out as a spinoff title. If it was more like a slice of life then that would be okay but its not.
I enjoyed the side story at the beginning.this book is the what looks like a set up of all the characters next big adventure.i wish we could have the books published faster.i know kindle is usually a couple of monts ahead but a hard book is better.i can hardly wait to see miles deal with her new adversaries.:)
Plot progression in relation to hint about intentions for a 10th book is down write frightening, but i have the feeling that a faster plot progression would cause both a decrease in quality and a painful deviation from well balanced journey.
I am still interested in this story, Mile/Adele makes me laugh every time she says something outrageous as if it was the most natural thing in the world
