It is has some minor issues but i have to give it full stars, and I will explain why.For a very long time I tried free websites, i tried books, i tried everything i could think off to teach my kids spanish. Nothing worked, or it was simply too hard for them to understand and they would lose interest in learning. This book is not perfect, it has a few issues but it is super easy to follow, has great flow and is 99% accurate. It fails in the explanation area a bit, it could use a bit more explaining and certain words are a bit odd...like cake, which is labeled as "torta" and maybe that is used in Spain, but in all latin america the word is "pastel". The verb "llevar" meaning to take, is labeled as to get dressed, when really its "vestir" Other than that everything seems ok.It is simple enough that with little guidance and supervision my kids are actually learning pretty fast and i expect them to be capable of fluent basic spanish in just about 4 months of practice. I would highly recommend this book. My kids are 10 and 12. I would suggest using google translate or something else to learn alphabet sounds as they help in pronouncing the words correctly.

Great workbook! I homeschool my children and use this for both my 4th grader and 7th grader.

Love this book. My 4th and 5th graders are using it as their curriculum book and my middle schoolers are using as enrichment and reteaching. It has a mini lesson on the top section and practice work after.

It's what our Spanish instructor is using, very easy to follow compared to other books we've looked at and tried. Pages are perforated, that works well for us.

I am 36 years old and decided to teach myself Spanish. I got this book so I could start at the beginning and I am glad I did. Yes it is an elementary level workbook but that is where I needed to start. I did get several different workbooks like this and it did got a little boring going over the same things but it was also really good review and I am glad that I got these.

I teach elementary & middle school Spanish. This book is geared toward grades 3-6, not 6-8. My 7th graders would find the work too simple.

Where to start? I loved Red Queen, didn't care for Glass Sword at all, and just as I began King's Cage, which I thought was the final book, I found out there will be a book 4. And now I know why Glass Sword was so bad. Obviously she was asked to drag her 3 book series into 4 books. Kings Cage is much better than Glass Sword, but they would have been better as one great book, with all the filler taken out. So much of Glass Sword was filler and didn’t advance the story or make it better. But I digress, this is a review of King’s Cage. After finishing the book, I am honestly sad. I am trying to think about how Book 4 is going to go and at this point, I have no idea. I am hoping for some kind of happy ending for Mare, but after this book, I’m not sure that’s in the cards for her, and again, that makes me sad. The really good thing about this book is I like Mare again. I didn’t like her much after Glass Sword, but now I really care about her again. As far as our other leads, it's hard to like Maven, yes, he can be charming, but he's a psychopath, and even when we start to understand the reason, what was done to him, it doesn’t matter, he’s still evil. Cal can't make up his mind to save his life. It’s frustrating. How can you be in love with someone who’s people are being persecuted and wronged, but still manage to sympathize with the persecutors? To me he's almost worse than Maven, who at least is honest about the monster he is. With Cal, because he’s a good person, you expect him to do the right thing, and he doesn’t always do it. Evangeline...what can I say about her...she's still a bitch, but I like her now, which is something I never thought I'd say. And then there's Mare. My heart breaks for all the suffering she has to endure. Can we please give this girl a happy ending in Book 4? She’s so strong, even when they weaken her, she keeps mentally strong, and later she turns into a real fighter, and I am rooting for her all the way, she deserves a win. There are a few interesting new characters that will probably play a larger role in Book 4. I didn’t like the author’s choice to use Cameron as a point of view, I had to go back to Glass Sword to remember who she was. I would have preferred point of views from Cal, or Farley instead of her. The book was entertaining, if a little too long in some areas, it held my attention the entire way through, picking up and getting better as it went along. And that ending. The author took us to the top of the cliff, and left us there hanging. If a book ends on such a cliffhanger, we shouldn’t have to wait longer than 6 months for the next one. Really. Can that be a rule? All, in all, this book redeemed the series for me. Mare is back, more like the Mare from Red Queen, but stronger, and that’s a good thing.

*SPOILERS*I really enjoyed Red Queen and couldn't put it down. Glass Sword was great as well, despite being a lot slower during the second half. I really wanted to love King's Cage, since I have already invested so much in the series and in the Mare-Cal relationship. Unfortunately, many parts of King's Cage just completely fell flat and bogged the whole story down.I felt no connection whatsoever to the chapters told from Cameron's perspective. I didn't care for her in Glass Sword, and liked her even less in this. I get that the author was giving us a peek into what the Red Guard was up to while Mare was being held prisoner, but I think Cal or Kilorn's perspectives would have carried more weight or interest. Evangeline's chapters were more interesting, but even they were not necessary and just felt like filler. With the exception of Mare's one failed escape attempt, the first 300 pages were almost painfully slow. The story didn't start to get exciting until Maven's wedding and Mare's rescue.The last chapter and the epilogue seemed to erase all the character development that Cal made throughout the series. I have loved him since the moment he came into Mare's life and called her a thief, and he progressively got even better throughout King's Cage UNTIL that annoying ending painted him as a liar (since he had previously said he loved and wanted Mare more than ANYTHING). It doesn't make sense to me. He has risked his life how many times to save her, and then doesn't choose her when offered his crown/Evangeline vs Mare? I have a sinking feeling the 4th book is going to end with Mare either dead or alone, like so many book series seem to be doing these days. I especially feel this way because in Glass Sword, Jon mentioned that he foresaw Mare alone. I will be reading reviews on Amazon for spoilers after the 4th book is released next year because if she or Cal die, or don't end up together, I will not bother buying the book or wasting any more of my time on this series.

I'd give this book a 5 star review due to the depth of research the author has done about emotions, substance abuse, and what she calls "relationship trauma." However, I must warn you, I'm listening to the audible book as well as have the kindle version and the reader mispronounces a lot of words( she pronounces amygdala as "amy-glada" and pronounces dissociation as "diss-association." Obviously the reader didn't look up the words in the dictionary so she pronounces the words completely wrong.

I am a Ph.D. candidate of Marriage & Family Therapy and work as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. I have run psychotherapy groups for several years already with addicts and their families, and I've been trained in multiple therapy modalities (EFT, SFBT, Gestalt, CBT, MI). This is a book that I wish I had written.Even though I posted this review nine months ago, I continue to recommend this book to both my colleagues and friends. I still have not found any books as comprehensive and balanced, as this book offers the latest research and integrates a spectrum of our field's freshest relationship theories into one book. She helps us move closer toward a "Grand Unified Theory" of therapy and integrates attachment theory, attachment injuries, updates in the codependency literature, research on emotions, PTSD, ADHD, grief, depression, anxiety, and more, and she makes it applicable to the lay person as well as to the therapist.This book can help clients understand how therapists can help, while giving therapists an updated look at how research on attachment theory can be integrated with the fields of substance abuse. For example, a lot of people still treat substance abuse using old models, using cognitive-only approaches, outdated notions of codependency, and overlooking the role of the brain, emotions, biology, trauma and the family system. She validates the newer approaches of using more experiential, emotionally-focused and systemic approaches with addicts and families and gives us clear language to explain why it works.Dr. Dayton stops us before we "throw the baby out with the bathwater." The pop psychology concept of "codependency" was popular in the addiction recovery field, but it was criticized mainly because there is little or no scientific evidence to support basic tenets of codependency theory, it became so watered down that it was useless, it seemed that every behavior was codependent, and was generally used as a derogatory label that tended to apply more often to women. Thus, Dr. Dayton prefers to talk about "relationship trauma."Nevertheless, Dr. Dayton provides her own definition of codependency, but links it to the latest research on adult attachment. You may also be interested in some recent research on codependency & attachment styles I came across by Whiteleather & Doumas (2004). [...] Using the four quadrant model of attachment styles, they correlated the concept of "codependency" with the anxious/preoccupied attachment style.Dr. Dayton defines codependency using an integration of attachment theory and Bowen family systems theory which I agree with and couldn't have said better: "Codependency, I feel, is fear-based and is a predictable set of qualities and behaviors that grow out of feeling anxious and therefore hypervigilant in our intimate relationships. It is also reflective of an incomplete process of individuation....Though codependency seems to be about caretaking or being overly attuned to the other person, it is really about trying to fend off our own anxiety." (p. 150-151) I believe that both codependency AND counterdependency are maladaptive behaviors used to manage anxiety about relationships--both are terms that I'm seeing appear more often recently. Dr. Dayton believes that these anxious or avoidant behaviors are the result of attachment injuries, or relationship traumas as she calls it.She EVEN shows how humor and psychodrama are healing, both of which I believe are powerful therapeutic agents. She describes the theories of humor and how laughter is healing, when I thought I was the only therapist who was interested in that. Yeesh! She got (almost) everything that I feel is important, including spirituality.If I was to write the next reincarnation of her book, I would want to include more Christian spirituality, but that's only because my undergraduate degree is in theology. My ONLY minor criticism was when she connected the Greek concept of "agape" love with romantic love (page 122) and said that it was too "unstable" for the foundation of a family. I don't believe Dr. Dayton truly understands what agape love means. Agape is by definition an unconditional decision to love somebody despite feelings, and therefore is the MOST stable form of love, something we need more of in our relationships. In the Bible, "agape" is used to describe God's unconditional, unmoving love for us despite the things we do wrong.The only other concern, which is not a bad thing, is that perhaps Dr. Dayton tries to do too much in her book! Whole books have been written on the topics for each chapter, so that she can't dive in too deep on any of them. Her book is monumental in putting all of this into one book. But, at least I can highly recommend this book as a good integration of a broad spectrum of theories for the professional who works with relationship traumas and helping people become more emotionally aware, as well as an advanced overview for the general audience.

This is an incredibly informative and transformative book. Unfortunately, the author gets off to a bad start in the first few chapters as she immediately delves into the neurophysiology of relational trauma, important but not the first topic I'd use to start. I was greatly rewarded for my persistence though as her message is fresh, succinct, and tremendously enlightening to anyone who has lived through dysfunctional family systems, alcoholic or otherwise. Her chapter on resilience was worth the price of the book alone. Highly recommended.

This is probably worth a read if one suffered trauma and abuse as a child. The author made some good points. The book just happened to not fit my life, as I never suffered as a child. Therefore, I could not relate to a lot of the author's comments and suggestions.

Excellent information on what drives all compulsive/addictive behavior and how anyone can learn to manage their feelings in healthy ways. I'm a therapist, but I think the book is written in a way that is easy for any teen or adult to learn from.

This was exactly what I needed, it is informative and easy to understand. This great book touched on every aspect of what I am working through in recovery. I will read it again and again. I have and will recommend it to anyone who is struggling with healing the past

If I could, I would give this book 3 1/2 stars. This book would have to be described as the bible of cruising. It has chapters of general information on cruising plus a complete writeup on almost every cruise ship afloat! Valuable for the first time cruiser who has trouble deciding which ship to take. The problem with this book is that there are only minor changes from year to year. If you have a copy that is less than three years old I would not buy a new one. If you put the 2017 and 2019 next to each other you will find the information almost identical on most ships.

Ship descriptions particularly of new ships--like Celebrity Edge--were not accurate. Used to think of this as the definitive guide to cruise ships but that is no longer the case.

I buy a new one of these about every 2 years because we love cruising and this way I can read about the new ships.

Good general information, but too repetitive from other issues. Liked the up to date info as regards overhauls etc.

This is the last time I am buying this book. The only thing I have known from the 2019 addition is that fake reviews, technical nonsense, mistakes, and wrong photos have been just reprinted. The sacred animal of the book is the same: MSC - no faults (!) and... the best cuisine (of major lines) !!The general information on cruising is interesting, but several most significant ships have received fake reviews. So the whole table of ratings is misleading. In a few words: the reviews are biased and not professional. This book is fiction, not the bible.

I use this book daily to prepare clients and myself for all new and old cruise ships improvement or faults.As a Travel Agent, I wouldn't sell a cruise without it.

I'm sorry, but this book is not worth $10. I was thinking it would be of comparable quality to Your 1st Year in Real Estate, but it looks like it was made at someone's home and is 50 pages. As for th content inside, it is like reading an article online that is filled with mostly common sense answers. I usually would never even write a review, but I want to save someone else from wasting $10.

I thought I was getting a thorough book on real estate but what came in the mail looks like it was a bunch of pamphlets stuck together to form a book! It's tiny! I haven't read it yet so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised that the information in it doesn't need much explanation and therefore not very many pages to say it in but right now I'm sorely disappointed in my "comprehensive" book on real estate! What a joke on this price!

Keep in mind that this is not a book about archeology, grave robbery, cultural heritage preservation etc. This is a book about author and his philosophy, which is not well defined ("no simple answers").Maybe he decided that it was necessary to cement toghether heap of essays and articles but as a result half of the book is dedicated to "I looked long and hard on the basket/axe/pot/arrowhead and started to think who was helding it before and who will be holding it after". Pity, since the other part of the book is interesting but there is simply not enough of it.

I’m still reading Child’s book on the looting trade that is rampant now in the southwest and elsewhere. I first heard about it talking to an archeologist about looting after I found a potsherd in Chaco canyon, took a picture of it, and then put the shred back where I found it. I got s nice thank you for doing so. The archeologist saw me do it while I was on a walk through the park. I found the book to read more about all of this, and it’s both scary and shock. It reminds me of drug cartels, and these looting rings can be just as ruthless. Child’s peppers his book with both personal experiences and the brutal truth of all of this. It’s a fascinating read so far, but scary. I hope I never run into one of these people while exploring the southwest.

This is an outstanding read for everyone, not just people interested in archeology. Childs explores the reasons we are compelled to collect artifacts, from the personal level to the institutional level, even when many of them are absolutely meaningless. He brings up important issues about storage of artifacts, the laws surrounding what we can have and can't, and the biggest one, I think, should we leave them in situ or squirrel them away in a private collection of institution storage facility where they may never be seen again.An excellent book on a subject that needs to be reassessed and revamped with an eye to what we are collecting and why.Seriously folks, do we really need thousands of Native human remains stuffed into cardboard boxes on a shelf no one even remembers is there?

Chllds takes you by the hand, guides you through the southwestern country like a tour guide. He writes about all the archaeology, in terms that are easily understood by even a novice. He takes you into the areas of the destruction caused by the "pot hunters", who tear into historical native American sites, for either profit or collections. He talks about the total destruction they leave behind, including the human graves that are dug up and scattered.He also asks the question if the professional archaeologists are part of the destruction of the early Native American civilizations. With our storage and displays of the artifacts in museums throughout the nation, are we really serving our nation with the history of these early peoples. Two memories came to mind as I made my way through this readable but difficult book: (1) Seeing the work of screwball relic hunters who had dug tiles out of Tom Cruise's star on Hollywood Boulevard, apparently seeking some intimate souvenir of their obsession; (2) member of my immediate and extended family showing off arrowheads they'd found in the Idaho desert lands. It's tempting and too easy to say that one was a nobler, less destructive activity than the other, but both were attempts to take possession of something larger than life, to own a piece of history.Though not a direct sequel to "House of Rain," Craig Childs does return to that territory (as well as Tibet, Central America, and St. Laurence Island) to examine what's been going on with what's been unearthed, and the stories are neither pretty nor black & white/good vs. evil. Balanced against stories of shameless pot hunters and relic poachers are accounts of both professional and self-declared archeologists removing the past from its moorings. But where do we draw the line between legitimate removal (for preservation and/or academic purposes) and removal simply to possess something for whatever intangible power or value we see in it? Where is the line between preservation and destruction?Childs avoids the pitfalls of caricature and easy answers. His writing is lively and his stories engrossing, which makes the dilemmas that much more heartwrenching. Though he obviously favors the repatriation of artifacts to their home turf, he is also cognizant that that may not always be best choice or even possible, calling into question his own act of "guerilla repatriation" that opens the book."Some people just can't leave a big fish alone," a game warden once told me in regard to a protected stream she was watching. Unfortunately my review conveys huge disappointment. Avoid this text, if you can. If you must use this text, buy used. Just make sure it's the correct edition for your particular course/instructor. Don't fall for the online support. Online learning support offered by the publisher, and for which an access code is required, is marketing B.S., and hardly helpful to the student. Remember, you can always buy the access code if you think you need to see the same content online.This text is well marketed, but weak in content. It's poorly written, proof-read and edited. The publisher has success with this text by essentially offering a canned course to instructors, making it relatively easy for them. For the student, however, it's an insult overall, and singularly unimpressive as a learning tool. This includes the author's SPSS (IBM statistics program) "support". Be aware that you may need to access YouTube and/or more sophisticated material to adequately and thoroughly understand these basic concepts, as presented by the author.Another demeaning aspect of this text is evidenced by sarcasm veiled in lame humor that is peppered throughout the flimsy text. Ironically, the numbers of words and the value of content contained in the "statistician" contributions (offered by the Heavey's epidemiologist-spouse), far exceed the author's. Elizabeth Heavey's writing style fosters confusion rather than clarity- even of simplest concepts. I don't know who this author imagines she is writing for. Examples are not illustrative, and she never offers more than one illustration or example per concept; nor does she offer any particular nursing research wisdom pertaining to any aspect of statistics she claims to teach.Online learning support includes author, word-for-word, digital audio recordings of 13 chapters. The author yawns and sighs, sirens, dogs, traffic, and general atmospheric noise drones along as she reads her chapters with zero enthusiasm. She does not read the statistician contributions, however. Too bad. Throughout the text the author constantly reminds the reader of her PhD in epidemiology and her college instructor status.This text does not represent the nursing profession well. I am embarrassed by it.The end-of-chapter assignments are worthy of note. The author's style extends to the assignments. Confusion and frustration versus clarity and discrete understanding of simple concepts.Shame on the mercenary publisher who let this text loose on the nursing education community. I'll take this experience into account when teaching.

This is an amazingly bad book. It is riddled with math errors, it jumps from the authors text to the "From the Statistician" text seemingly at random, and the definitions of terms are consistently imprecise and inaccurate. There were times when in her explanations she would would use a chart and try to interpret it, except there was a calculation and result missing that you HAD to do in order for the information to make sense (For example, on pg. 36, question 25. The formula for calculating mortality rate is never given nor explained, but somehow we're supposed to know how to do this. Yup, I Googled it. Good grief!) Her understanding of the difference between an bar chart and a histogram is wrong as well. A nurse who has a Associates degree does not flow directly into a Bachelor degree, nor does a Bachelor of nursing flow directly into a Masters. There may be huge gaps of time in between these degrees, and they may have a second Bachelors after a Masters. This happens! On the other hand a 6 year old child does flow directly into a 7 year old, then an 8 year old. So charting degrees would go best on a bar chart and a childs age would go best on a histogram. And how do you like this: "To find the p-value, just look in the appendix chart." Except the appendix chart doesn't have any data that matches the question. Nice. If you are trying to learn statistics, avoid this book at all costs. The author writes in a campy style, at an 8th grade reading level, which I suppose is supposed to make you feel comfortable. All it does is reinforce the fact that the author is a nurse, not a statistician, and shouldn't be writing a textbook to teach statistics. Everything is made much harder than necessary because you have to figure it all out on your own. Thank goodness for Google searches and the number of University professors of statistics who share their lessons online for free. For just about every chapter, I was in our instructors office showing her issues I had, and she had to pull out ANOTHER statistics book to explain what Heavey was trying to say. That tells it all. It's absolute junk.

Did not care for this book. Too much left unsaid, too few concrete examples and the numerous review questions had no relation to the sparse examples offered in the short chapters and only half of them had answers; am I right or am I wrong? What's wrong? There were math errors in the examples -- not good. It's almost like they wrote the book to keep statistics confusing instead of simplifying it into a useable tool. If you have a recent background in statistics and are familiar with the terminology and tests it may be alright. Thank God our instructor was able to decipher the codes and give us clear examples for application. There is a web site with some interesting learning tools that should be utilized right away. I'm sorry if you have to use this as a text book for class. Pretty much left the entire class feeling confused but evidently we did learn something because we were able to cobble together a research project using information from the text.

I found this book helpful while taking an online statistics course - it is short and concise, and quite readable. It seems aimed at teaching you to interpret statistics rather than actually Do statistics (yes, we use computers, but it is important to understand what the formulas mean - the formulas get lost in the "For the Statistician" sections), and I found this a bit frustrating sometimes. So, this book probably would not be super useful if you need to analyze your own data, but it's a great introduction to how health professionals typically use statistics.I think future editions would benefit from using more visual aids interspersed with the text (not just tables of data or graphs) to help consolidate important concepts. It would also be helpful to put the chapters into context and explore Why being able to give a critical assessment of data is valuable.

Our whole family loves this gorgeous alphabet book. The illustrations and choice of local representation for each letter of the alphabet are beautiful, unique, and creative. The detailed descriptions add a bit of local education for the older kids and adults who read it to the littlest members of the family. There is something in this book for everybody. A real treat and a reminder of home.

This book is certainly a touch of home for N & L people. I bought it for my 75 yr old mom and my adult children. My mom lived on Prospect Street, 2 blocks from the wharf. The houses were not painted like a circus when she grew up there, or when we visited in the 60s'. Now I think it is for the tourists. Anyways, it is beautifully written and illustrated. It has simple writing for the younger ones on part of the page, and more indepth writng for older ones.I know this is a series of states and provinces. I just picked up T is for Tarheel at my Costco for my grandson and me. Not a good series for book lovers , especially if you like alphabet books. you could go broke.

What a disappointing book.I've been interested in chariot warfare in the ancient world ever since reading Robert Drews "End of the Bronze Age" some 20 years ago. This book seemed like it would address the use of chariots and their replacement by cavalry as the bronze age waned. It sort of does, but in such a meandering, disjointed and repetitive way as to make this a book to go into the charity give-away pile. The author knows his stuff, but conveys that knowledge so awkwardly it makes for a frustrating read.

Great book. The author has a very interesting perspective and offers some insights I had not encountered before.

Great book. Came handy as a reference source for a report I had to do of him in college. Great director and fan of his work!

I love the films by Francois Truffaut. I think he is probably one of the best directors of French NEW WAVE. That's why it is so interesting to get to know his own views on cinema.

Truffaut's Reviews, Book Introductions, and short program pieces. Buried inside are all of his approaches and attitudes, andeven a description of how the New Wave got up and running. I recently referenced this work extensively for a lecture on theNew Wave for a Gallery Retrospective. Going to the source is sometimes the best place to start.

A precious, enjoyable book from the director of "The 400 Blows". He was a fabulous storyteller, especially when he talked about his passion: the films in his life.

I read this entire book on a flight from London back to the U.S. When I got home, I rented/watched several of the movies mentioned by Truffaut (Rear Window, etc.) watching for the points he made. Many people don't know Truffaut was a journalist as well as a filmmaker. He was able to write as desriptively as his films were imaginative. My only complaint is that this is a book for serious film fans who have already seen the movies he reviews. If you haven't seen the films, his comments aren't referential enough to include you. But, that said, it will help you see many titles in a new way.

Nice book for anyone who enjoys film arts and particularly the French New Wave films.

Very interesting to see these reviews from Truffaut. Definitely worth checking out. His thoughts on some classic films are really priceless.

This coloring book made me laugh so hard!! It's not for everyone though. I must be getting old because some of the phrases were so bad that I wouldn't even say them...none the less, very funny!
