"An essential book...The Myth of the Perfect Girl challenges both girls and the adults who care about them to deeply reflect on the most important issues girls will face as they reach their full potential."—Rosalind Wiseman, author of Queen Bees and Wannabes"Whether you're the parent of an adolescent girl or a savvy young woman yourself, the insights in this book could just change your outlook — and make the turbulent teen years a little less of a pressure-cooker. Ana Homayoun is the counselor, expert, and friend every parent — and girl — needs."—Michele Borba, Ed.D., author of The Big Book of Parenting Solutions "Offering fresh insights and vivid examples, Ana Homayoun makes sense of the enormous pressures facing girls today. More important, she shows what parents and educators can do to help girls navigate these turbulent years with confidence and purpose. A great addition to the field."—Michael Gurian, Author of The Wonder of Girls"A smart, funny and engaging study on how to give girls the tools to figure out what they really want - and how to get it.  A must-read for girls, mothers, educators and anybody who wants to understand half the population."—Susan Shapiro, author of Unhooked: How to Quit Anything and Only as Good as Your Word  "As our society grapples with who we want and need females and males to grow up to be, it is no surprise that our girls and boys are confused about what is expected of them. The Myth of the Perfect Girl dives deep into how this is unnerving our girls. A must read for all parents, educators, psychologists and girls themselves."—Dr. Louann Brizendine, Founder/Director UCSF Women's Mood and Hormone Clinic, and author of The Female Brain and The Male Brain"Many seemingly disconnected forces in society are placing unfair burdens on girls growing up today, as well as on their parents.  Gratefully, Ana Homayoun, poignantly spells out what’s going on, how it’s affecting our girls, and how grownups can help them negotiate the minefields.  Everyone who cares about the wellbeing of girls should read The Myth of the Perfect Girl."—Diane E. Levin, Ph.D., Professor of Education, Wheelock College, and co-author of So Sexy So Soon

"The Myth of the Perfect Girl" by Ana Homayoun is an enlightening read. It's wisdom about the adversity that teenage girls face is very telling of how hard it is to be an adolescent girl in our modern culture. As a high school senior, I found the book to be extremely comforting. Teenagers often believe they are alone in a problem and their friends are having a wonderful time. Homayoun's book shatters this illusion! It allows girls to feel empathetic towards each other. In a society where female misogyny is so prevalent, this book promotes the power of sisterhood among young girls. Homayoun's accessible language allows anyone to be engaged, entertained and well informed by, "The Myth of the Perfect Girl."

As a Teen Life Coach (Teen Wise Seattle) for girls and a mom to three daughters, this book resonated with me. Due to pressures from society, teacher, friends, and even parents, our girls are trying to be the best at everything they do. They also feel that it should come easy to them. The idea of perfection is holding our girls back. We should give them the tools, support, and the space to be imperfect and to still see their own value and potential. This book sheds light on this very important issue. Anyone who has daughters or who works with girls should read this.

I have a teenaged daughter and bought this book to just get pointers from someone who has dealt with lots of teens from various backgrounds. The book is insightful, had lots of great tips on helping teens who are overbooked and overwhelmed with life in general. I have tried to help my daughter cut down on extra outside activities so that she could just rest and have some creative time, and this book gives several ideas on how to do this. Also if your child is dealing with "too much school" and the anxiety of it, it also give pointers on how to help your child prioritize and get their work done with practical assignments.Mom's and dads will benefit from reading this book and actually going over it with your children.

I was honored to meet Ana Homayoun at an event for young women recently. In order to prep for the conference, I ordered this book and I feel like it spans ages. I have a young daughter and I hope to be able to instill in her a lot of the lessons this book teaches. As an adult reader I still took a lot of the advice to heart. The perfect book for all ages - great lessons, advice and reminders that "perfect" isn't a thing...

An absolute must read if there are girls in your life!

Very informative book. My organization Positive Express is using this book as a tool for our book club and the girls are enjoying the breakdown.

Once again Ana Homayoun has provided valuable insights into the complex world of young people today. In her second book, Ana does so in such a way that demonstrates that she truly understands the very real pressures and challenges that girls face to be "perfect" and the often disastrous consequences of these pressures during adolescence. While books written on this topic can often be theoretical in their approach, this book provides more of a practical "road map" to understanding girls and helping them to understand their potential. I recommend this book for parents, educators, and anyone who has an opportunity to influence girls. I highly recommend encouraging girls that you know to sit with you to check out the Facebook site for the book. All you need to do is read the comments that girls have written and check out the "Game of Threes." You'll understand why this book is a true winner!

What a fabulous read for parents of teenage girls, people who work with teenage girls, and teenage girls themselves! It is extremely relatable and provides tools to make the most of what can be a difficult time period in a girl's life.
