The book is a great introduction on what diabetes entails, what are the risks and sympthoms to look out for. It not only shows the long and immediate effects of the disease but the causes and the necessary tests and procedures you need to get done, as well as the frequency they need to be performed -i.e. annually, every 6 months, etc.-, and what are “normal†and “anormal†results. It even gives a brief review on popular glucometers and how to choose one, they way they work and what characteristics are best for you.Moreover, at the end it also gives you a guide on the things you need to consider about food (carbohidrates, sugar, glycemic index, etc), provides you some subsititution tables and a small meal plan. I wish there was a more recent edition of the book as it also touches talks about the most advanced treatments on diabetes (at the time of publication: 2002).
My mother was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. It really got us by surprised. This book is helping her (and mostly us)to understand and deal with all that is going on for my 73 years old mom.Besides, it has put in perspective how many bad food habits we have had as a family over the years. So we all (even my nephew of 11 years) are learning to live and eat healthier. The best: it was written in Spanish!!! So really helpful.
Not enough sufficient information. Very disappointed in this purchase. Send to mother-in-law in Mexico and she didn't find it helpful.
