Quite a unique concept of a way to tell a tale, write a bunch of fake reviews on Amazon products by random people in a fictional village. You've got a an alcoholic vicar who stalks a woman who went out on a date with him in high school and tells us all about it through products that help him do those things, a juvenile delinquent who wants to grow pot, a crazy old pushing a supermarket trolley around the place lady, a farmer and many other eccentric characters. What works is that there will be many incidents where one character will recount what happened through their review of a product, then a few review entries later another character that was there will mention the same incident with a different point of view of who was in the right and who was in the wrong. Sort of like in real life someone will go on a date with someone and tell you how great it was, how the other person was so into them, then you'll talk to the other person and they'll tell you they never want to see that person again and recount the same events in a negative manner.I don't think any individual fake reviews in this collection are funnier than the fake reviews that have received legendary status on here such as the The Mountain Three Wolf Moon Short Sleeve Tee, but overall the collection is amusing and of a high enough level of fun to check out the sequels.

We've all read some pretty odd reviews on Amazon - heck, you're reading one now. From the description of this book I initially got the impression that the book was a goof on Amazon reviewers and some of those odd reviews. Sorry, the book is actually so much more and so much better.The product reviews could just as well be diary entries or letters to the editor or in some other form. What they end up being is a series of interrelated stories and bits that, when read together, create a funny and affectionate portrait of an endearingly odd village. The first Idiot Review e-book I read. Following a unique format, Pete Sortwell weaves a tale through a community of individuals seemingly qualify as the "village idiot". After finding the initial connections between reviews to unveil the characters, I found this book to be hysterically funny! The bit that brings the most surprise is that the products listed are linked to actual products available (at least at the time of my reading the book). Being a light read makes this book easy to sit down and read a large chunk in a single sitting. If you divide this up into smaller sections you will miss the larger story and not find this book to be as humorous.The book follows a very British-style of humor, which I appreciate. If you do, then I have to believe you will enjoy this book as well.

"The Village Idiot Reviews" certainly does create some laugh-out-loud moments (the first review, for example, is hilarious). However, the book overall feels a bit too long with quite a few reviews that miss the mark on humor.The most impressive aspect of this book is that Sortwell develops a fluid narrative through these reviews. It's a brilliant premise, but taking out a few of the reviews could make this into a tighter and much more enjoyable read. Still, Sortwell should be commended for his work here, and it's definitely worth grabbing a copy just for a handful of these reviews that really will make you burst out laughing.

That being titled, it is a funny book, just not "laugh out loud" funny. It does have a humorous storyline driven by Amazon reviews, and as you read along, the reviews and the storyline do intertwine nicely...and certain characters may remind you of people you know. All in all, worth the price I paid (free) so I'm satisfied and it certainly wasn't the worst comedy I've read.

This was a clever and unique way to tell the story of a small town. It was fun to try and guess who had written the review (and what trouble they had gotten themselves into).

I am finding this book quite frustrating. Nothing was making sense until I was half way through. There are a lot of spelling errors, not to mention missing letters as well as double words. The spelling is old English, which is fine. That did throw me off at first. I would not highly recommend this book, if at all.

It's alright. I didn't find it particularly funny, overall, but some were amusing.

Excellent! I am a beginning quilter and these are all quilts I could actually do! All are attractive, look great, but are simple enough I could (and intend to) sew all of them. I can heartily recommend this book. I've done a lot of "mickey mouse" patterns but these, while simple, do not look as easy as they truly are.

The authors offer down to earth advice on choosing fabrics. Great for fat quarters and other specialty cuts. They may be simple to piece quilts but they look quite impressive.

I wanted something for quick quilts. This was not it. If you have never made a quilt, this would be a good place to start. Not much of interest for me, but good for a real newbie.

The patterns range from very beginner to more complex, though everything is within reach even for a new quilter. Not as complete in that the patterns refer you to a website for tips on binding and quilting your quilt, instead of including General Instructions in the book as their "3 Times the Charm book 2" does. Still, gorgeous fabrics and easy to follow instructions.

This is a terrific book of quilt patterns with designs that are really attractive and perfect for new quilters such as myself. I really like the look of the quilts they designed, putting the bright, cheery fabrics next to solid colors like white which shows them off to their best. It is the look I really like, and while I understand that the choice of fabrics don't have to be the same as the book's selection, it was helpful to get my attention quickly! The instructions are clear and the pictures are vivid and helpful. I really liked all of the patterns and I look forward to making several of them with the new stash of quilting fabric that I am rapidly accumulating.

Wonderful, easy and colorful book for beginner quilters. Makes quilting fun and easy. This book sells out over and over again in our local fabric store.

This is the best book for beginning quilters I've ever found. The 12 quilts run from "super-ultra simple" to "simple" & all have interesting designs. As a beginning quilter, I feel confident trying out some of these quilts to reduce my stash of quilting cottons.

Did the program, my vertical increased and I really felt stronger and more stable. It is very hard work though, you need to get used to holding an isometric position in a lot of pain for 30 seconds or more. There is also some great info in here, enjoyed the book and got results. Tim Grover is pretty impressive.

The book was ok but loved the relentless book better. But then again, I don't practice basketball so maybe it has more to do with this (-: (although I practice sports as well)

This was an interesting read and I took concepts from it to use with my kids. Worth while for anyone working with high school kids or older.

No better workout routine for athletes. Tim Grover is the best at what he does. Buy this book and complete the workout, over and over, if you truly wish to be better than the rest.

First 2 weeks of the program and the workouts feels amazing, I cant test my vertical gain so far, because I haven't finished the program yet, but I love the sequence routine for legs, you feel the burn immediately and my legs are getting stronger. I will update this review when I finish the entire program.

I bought this book for my teenage son who is a sports nut and wants to increase his vertical jump. He loves it and has found excellent results following this programme. He is not someone who loves reading, so it gives me great delight to see him carrying this book around - dog-eared from being read over and over.

I started doing the workout. I am a basketball coach. While I have not tried jumping yet. I feel the strength in my legs and core growing after just the first couple of weeks. I really enjoy the timed workouts as well as the reps. It's a good workout.

This is a fascinating book exploring language through crystallography that fits nicely into the Oupilo experiments. In general the book is accessible - word squares, concrete poems, charts and, yes, some poetry as "commonly understood." The most personal poems are under "Diamonds" which explores the relationship with his father, a diamond cutter. The layout of the poems in this section remains a puzzle to me. As I do Merrill's "The Changing Light at Sandover", I found myself wanting a crib sheet to point out what I felt I was missing of the author's intent.The linguistic "games" that I found most interesting were the classification of letters by their axis of symmetry and the "dripping line" (think of water dripping from a cave ceiling). (Unfortunately the web removes multiple spaces so it is not easy to give an illustration - just think of fewer and fewer letters falling into the next line, always spelling out meaningful clauses, phrases, words.)This book is a major tour-de-force of experimental writing. It will get under your skin. You'll read and reread digging deep to find the underlying principles. You may even become obsessed. Or you may read through it quickly dismissing it as a mere experiment.

Imaginative and unique. This has become my standard gift for graduating students who majored in Chemical and Physical Biology.

I forget what I paid for it--$12? $16? Something like that. Cheap. It has paragraphs you'll never read anywhere else, using long strings of words that have never before been next to one another. It's a testament to what can be done--because Christian Bok did it--if one goes off in a hole somewhere and focuses, and that's a good lesson any ol' time.How much is one fantastic, comprehensible, and yet on the surface bizarre sentence worth to you? In entertainment or inspiration or education? I'd say--for me-- a dollar at least, and five at most. Applying that standard, this book is worth hundreds of dollars. I'm no intellectual, and I'm no freak, but I like language and words, and I like this book a lot.

Great book combining science poetry. Bought it for one of my introductory English classes. Really opens the mind up the link between science and poetry. I ended up writing a paper on it due to my interest.

My view is that this is where Bok's work on chemistry + poetry really started to emerge strongly. The more recent biological poems - living poems made of DNA chains, can be linked to to passages herein on the structure of crystals, and their inherent portal-like qualities. It's unique from assemblage type poems, wherein archival information is assembled to make "sciency" found poems. And it's not translation, where the material of another work is used, as in "Parse". Rather, the material of the crystallography is taken from the basic components of our thought on crystals themselves.

I am a geology major and I usually tend to avoid poetry, however, this book is quite an exception. This book took the science of geology and the art of poetry and combined them into a masterpiece. This analysis of these two fields of study is incredible and is a definite must read.

This was simply not my genre of book, but purchased for a Book Club. Overall it was a sad book even though the sisters were trying to overcome many past problems.

Georgia "Peachy" Archer learns a lot about herself over a weekend in which she takes an impromptu trip from her home in rural Canada to New York. She takes this trip under false pretenses, although the pretenses are not her own doing. We ardently want the best outcome for this character, but in the end, I felt torn between a couple of different outcomes, any one of which would have been fine. Such is the balance and artistry on display.Peachy Archer, now Mrs. Laliberté, has a husband and two young sons, one of whom is sick. Her glamorous sister Beth has the looks, the fame, and the addictions that Peachy never aspired to. Beth's dazzling New York success seduces Peachy's two impressionable sons. And her history with Peachy's husband adds to the general disruption when she comes for one of her regular visits. Peachy and Beth briefly collaborate on a plan to get back at Beth's ex-boyfriend (the false pretenses part), but events take an unexpected direction when Peachy heads for New York unaccompanied.The "Almost Archer Sisters" bulges with family: family history, family failure and strife, tough love, and shocking weakness. Peachy, at one point an aggrieved party, flirts with a beautiful, appealing man and with the possibility of forbidden fruit, all the while knowing very well the needs of those who depend on her. This story has a highly unusual balance - a reflecting quality. Peachy's yang dynamically anchors Beth's yin, and we see some of Beth's fast-lane influence on Peachy during Peachy's excursion. This centrifugal balance drives the narrative, pulling our emotions along for the suspenseful ride.Ms. Gabriele takes her heroine on a journey, a richly dramatic one, and she treats the reader with laugh-out-loud comic touches throughout. This book shows the author's power and assuredness with a fraught family situation; it never approaches anything cloying, and holds a ton of promise for Peachy, the heroine. This story soars, it delights, and it rewards the lucky reader. Well done!

The story follows Peachy as she tries to piece together her life after her sister's betrayal and figure out just who she really is.The storyline appears simple enough - one sister living the Sex & the City lifestyle, the other a stay-at-home mom, and the different lives they live. However Lisa Gabrielle has a beautiful writing style that turns this simple story into one that you won't forget.When I was asked to review "The Almost Archer Sisters" I gladly accepted, thinking I was going to be reviewing a "chick lit" novel. But this book is so much more. Lisa Gabrielle takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster as we follow Beth and Peachy's turbulent childhood, and touch on real issues such as depression, abortion, suicide, epilepsy and much more.Whether you are a single woman, a mother, or just married you will treasure this book with all your heart as you follow Peachy along her quest to find out who she really is and what life she belongs in, whether its her seemingly idyllic life on the farm with her husband and two children, or the Sex & The City life that Beth leads.The emotion that pours out of every page left me hanging on right until the end, and wishing that there was more.There is also a great Q&A at the end, where author, Lisa Gabrielle, talks about the characters, the story and why she wrote it.For the fans of Cathy Kelly, Marian Keyes and Nicholas Sparks this is one not to be missed.

I loved "The Almost Archer Sisters" and was very unhappy when it ended. All the characters were wonderfully written and I identified greatly with Peachy. This book was funny and heartbreaking and one of the best books I have read in a long time. I would recommend "The Almost Archer Sisters" who likes to get lost in a book that touches many emotions and stays with you long after you finish reading it.

So many authors attempt to look at 'female relationships', few manage to capture them. Gabriele does, she doesn't flinch from the intimate cruelty we can inflict on each other, humorously and perfectly capturing the the subtle ways we punish people we love. Though the sisters in this book feel an intense, perhaps unhealthy, loyalty toward each other, it is tested by their differences, shared pain and hidden anger. As a rural housewife and her glamorous big city sister work through their conflicts, Gabriele avoids any cliched idealizations of motherhood and "Sex & the City" type success and delivers a novel that is real - and really good.

I couldn't put this book down!! From beginning to end, I was interested and curious about each character, and I couldn't wait to find out what happened to them. The relationship between the sisters was so real, and written with such compassion that I felt like I knew them. All of the characters could easily resemble a real family, with real pain, and real love. I enjoyed this book so much and I can't wait to see what else Lisa Gabriele has in store. I am truly a fan!!

I loved this book! The characters each got under my skin and I couldnt stop thinking about them long after I closed the last page (in tears). Their stories, desires, struggles, heartaches and triumphs. What a family this is. This is one beautiful and broken home I would love to be a part of.

This book was entertaining; however not very realistic and very predictable... a good fluff read but there are definitely better books out there!
